Brown Bin Text Reminder service
| December 7, 2011 | Posted by Editor under East Riding of Yorkshire Council |
A FREE TEXT SERVICE that reminds residents to put out their brown bins for emptying is being launched on 12th December 2011.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is providing the text service which residents will receive the evening before every collection day. Note: This is a free service apart from the initial text to set up the service which is charged at the providers rates.
To subscribe to the reminder service, text the code on the top left hand corner of your brown bin calendar to 07786 200416. That code is specific to the collection in your area. Check the leaflet arriving through letter boxes with the 2012 calendars for further details.
Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “It is only about six months ago since we completed the roll out of the collection of food waste and cardboard in the brown bins. But in that time that collection has become an important part of our domestic life. Forgetting to put it out is a real nuisance. This free text service is a real blessing and we are expecting thousands of our residents to take us up on it.”
The fortnightly text messages will include information about what materials to put in the brown bins, as well as any changes to the collection days, such as adverse weather like deep snow.
If residents experience any difficulties setting up the service, they should contact the council’s recycling officers on (01482) 395586 or wastewatchers@eastriding.gov.uk
A similar text service for the blue recycling bins has more than 20,000 subscribers. This is a free service apart from the initial text to set up the service which is charged at the providers rates.
