Jubilee Bells Celebration – an appeal for new Bell ringers!
| May 30, 2012 | Filled under Community, Events, Faith, Holderness |
CHURCH BELLS ringing out in celebration will be one of the sounds that will mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee long weekend from Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th June 2012.
Ringing church bells to celebrate special events is a particularly English tradition which will be going on all over the country this weekend, including in the East Riding. Special peals will be rung at many local churches including Withernsea, Roos, Patrington, Burstwick and Hedon.
Mike Robson, President of the Beverley and District Ringing Society, said “We will do our best to ring as many of our local sets of bells over the weekend as possible, but we do not have enough ringers to ring them all.
It is a great hobby and lots of fun and you do not have to be a church-goer to enjoy ringing bells. We therefore hope that people will consider finding out more and perhaps have a go. We can be contacted via our website”
We have some details of local Jubilee events taking place on our Jubilee Page.
