LOCAL CRICKET NEWS (by Malc Ripley):

I take this opportunity here to congratulate Patrington first’s on being worthy champions in their first venture into the York &DSC League, as they have won 13 matches to easily top the table and to gain a very quick promotion from division Five – very well done to this popular village Club!

And also congratulations to Humbleton 1st’s, under skipper Andy Johnson, on being Champions in division One of the EY Cricket Alliance!

At the University of Hull’s ground, the South Holderness first Xl earned the better part of the eventual Draw against home team Newland CC, which vitally removes the Hedon based teams relegation worries, or at the least, certainly eases them!

The long serving Mike Oliver, figured well to hit an attractive 97 whilst having good support from all-rounder Lewis Duell, adding 64, to help Holderness to a big 243 for 6 total despite the attentions of Derek Hepworth with his 3 for 30.

The up and coming Jack Riley played a valuable part with the youngster returning good figures of 3 for 13 to limit the home side to 166 for 9, but even he could not force a victory as another long serving player Ray Bullock resisted with a solid unbeaten 25, whilst Hepworth completed a valuable all round game with his 38, for the former Parish Church side.
