GRAHAM STUART MP has congratulated residents of Withernsea on the announcement that the town is to receive £1 million of lottery funding as a ‘Big Local’ area.
Delighted!
Graham said, “This is excellent news for Withernsea which hasn’t had a fair shout in past years. The status as a ‘Big Local’ area has been awarded to towns across the country that have previously ‘missed out’ on lottery funding through a lower than average level of approved applications.
“This innovative programme aims to put residents firmly in the driving seat to identify, prioritise and deliver improvements to the town. The exact details of how this will work are yet to be confirmed so I urge residents to lookout for information about how to get involved and play a part in shaping a brighter future for Withernsea.
“The project is expected to span ten years and will involve a range of activities such as community building improvements, developing recreational activities and small grants programmes.”
An organisation called ’The Local Trust’, has been established by the Big Lottery to work with communities to develop their projects. A representative from the trust will be on-hand to guide Withernsea on the Big Local journey.
Withernsea is one of fifty areas around the country that have been previously missed out by external funders. These fifty “forgotten” areas are to be given a share of £200m to help transform their neighbourhoods.

Sounds like a brilliant idea. Good luck to those who have the task of spending the money!
